Autoimmune hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that is associated with high concentrations of autoantibodies, hypergammaglobulinemia and the absence of cholestasis. Antinuclear antibodies (ANA), smooth muscle antibodies (SMA) and soluble liver antigen/liver pancreas (anti-SLA/LP) are useful markers that can help clinicians to diagnose and classify autoimmune hepatitis. The determination of AMA-M2 is utilized in the diagnosis of PBC and as an aid in the diagnosis of related disease.
